Home and End Keys on a Mac
MacBooks have no dedicated Home and End keys. Press Command + Left to jump to the start of a line and Command + Right to jump to the end; use Command + Up / Down for the top and bottom of a document.
| Action | Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start of line | ⌘ + ← | Home | |
| End of line | ⌘ + → | End | |
| Top of document | ⌘ + ↑ | Ctrl + Home | |
| Bottom of document | ⌘ + ↓ | Ctrl + End | |
| Page up / down | Fn + ↑ / Fn + ↓ | PgUp / PgDn |
There are no Home and End keys
Apple laptop keyboards leave off the dedicated Home and End keys that Windows keyboards have. The movement is done with Command + arrow combinations instead.
Line and document jumps
Press Command + ← for the start of the current line and Command + → for the end. For the very top or bottom of a document use Command + ↑ and Command + ↓. Add Shift to any of these to select while you move.
If you have a full keyboard
On an external full-size keyboard the real Home and End keys work, but in many apps they scroll the view rather than move the cursor — the Command + arrow combos are more reliable across macOS.
