Maximize Window Shortcut (Win+↑ / ⌃⌘F)
Maximize the active window with Win+Up on Windows and ⌃⌘F (fullscreen) on Mac. Here it is with restore and snap.
| Action | Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximize window | ⌃⌘F (fullscreen) | Win+↑ | |
| Restore / un-maximize | ⌃⌘F (toggle) | Win+↓ | |
| Snap left | ⌃⌥← | Win+← | |
| Snap right | ⌃⌥→ | Win+→ | |
| Minimize window | ⌘M | Win+↓ |
Fill the screen with one key combo
On Windows, Win+↑ maximizes the active window; press it again from a snapped state to fill the screen. On the Mac there is no true “maximize” — ⌃⌘F toggles full-screen mode, and the green traffic-light button (or double-clicking the title bar) zooms the window.
Restore and snap
Win+↓ restores or minimizes on Windows; on macOS Sequoia, ⌃⌥ plus an arrow tiles a window to half the screen.
FAQ
How do I maximize a window with the keyboard?
On Windows press Win+Up. On the Mac press ⌃⌘F for full-screen, or double-click the title bar to zoom the window.
Why is there no maximize on Mac?
macOS uses full-screen mode (⌃⌘F) and window zoom instead of Windows-style maximize. The green button also zooms the window.
How do I un-maximize?
On Windows press Win+Down. On the Mac press ⌃⌘F again to leave full-screen.
