Move a window to another monitor

On Windows, press Win+Shift+← or Win+Shift+→ to throw the active window to the monitor on the left or right. Mac has no built-in key — Rectangle uses ⌃⌥⌘→ / ←.

Move a window between monitors on Windows

Press Win+Shift+← to send the active window to the display on its left, or Win+Shift+→ for the one on its right. The window keeps its size and relative position. If you want it maximized on the new screen, follow with Win+↑. This works with any number of monitors and wraps around at the ends.

On Mac there is no native shortcut

macOS does not ship a keyboard shortcut to move a window to another display — you normally drag the window across the screen edge, or drag it in Mission Control. For a real hotkey, install the free Rectangle app: ⌃⌥⌘→ moves the active window to the next display and ⌃⌥⌘← to the previous one.

Troubleshooting

If Win+Shift+→ does nothing, check that the second monitor is set to Extend (press Win+P → Extend), not Duplicate. On Mac, make sure Displays have separate Spaces is on in System Settings → Desktop & Dock, or windows may snap back.

FAQ

How do I move a window to another monitor with the keyboard?

On Windows press Win+Shift+← or Win+Shift+→ to move the active window to the left or right display. It keeps its size; add Win+↑ to maximize on the new screen.

Is there a Mac shortcut to move a window to another display?

Not built in — you drag the window across the edge. The free Rectangle app adds ⌃⌥⌘→ and ⌃⌥⌘← to move windows between displays.

Win+Shift+Arrow does nothing — why?

The second monitor is probably set to Duplicate. Press Win+P and choose Extend so Windows treats the displays as separate.
