On Windows press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager instantly. macOS has no Task Manager — the closest is Force Quit: press ⌘ Option Esc.

Open Task Manager on Windows
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to jump straight into Task Manager — no menus. From there you can see which apps and background processes are running, how much CPU and memory each uses, and end any that have frozen. The older route Ctrl+Alt+Del works too, but it first shows the security screen; you then click Task Manager.
The Mac equivalent: Force Quit
macOS has no app literally called Task Manager. To close a frozen program press ⌘ Option Esc (⌘⌥Esc) — this opens the Force Quit Applications window. Select the app and click Force Quit. For a full view of CPU, memory, energy and network — the real counterpart to Task Manager — open Activity Monitor from Spotlight (⌘Space, type Activity Monitor). It has no default keyboard shortcut.
When to use which
