Screenshot a Region (Win+Shift+S / ⇧⌘4)
Grab a selected area of the screen with one shortcut — Windows and Mac keys side by side.
| Action | Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screenshot a selected region (to clipboard) | ⌃⇧⌘4 | Win+Shift+S | |
| Screenshot a selected region (save to file) | ⇧⌘4 | Win+Shift+S then save | |
| Screenshot a specific window | ⇧⌘4 then Space | Alt+PrtSc | |
| Screenshot the whole screen | ⇧⌘3 | PrtSc (or Win+PrtSc to save) |
Capture just part of the screen
On Windows press Win+Shift+S — the screen dims, drag a box, and the region is copied to the clipboard (a toast lets you annotate and save it). On the Mac press ⇧⌘4 (Shift+Command+4), then drag to select the area; it is saved to the Desktop as a PNG. Add Control on the Mac (⌃⇧⌘4) to copy the region to the clipboard instead of saving a file.
Window and full-screen variants
To grab a single window: on the Mac press ⇧⌘4 then tap Space and click the window; on Windows use Alt+PrtSc (copies the active window to the clipboard). For the whole screen it is ⇧⌘3 on the Mac and PrtSc on Windows — add Win (Win+PrtSc) to auto-save it to Pictures › Screenshots.
